National Massage Therapy Institute
In response to increased enrollment, this massage training school desired to expand their current facility into the tenant space on the floor directly above their existing space within a high-rise office building located in the City of Falls Church.
Planning and design for this training school involved the renovation of the existing tenant space that had been configured for traditional office use, into classrooms, administration space, and support spaces that would include a student lounge, a computer lab, and a reception area.
The primary influence behind the design was the client’s educational model which focuses on hands-on practice. The design exemplifies this teaching philosophy by including a massage therapy clinic where community members can schedule massage sessions with students. The unique training requirements necessary to certify massage therapists directly influenced the floor plan, and the result is a modern, mixed-use facility that meets the needs of patients, students, and administrators.
