Arlington Courthouse Plaza

Arlington Courthouse Plaza is a mixed-use community located adjacent to the Arlington County Courthouse and contains over two million square feet of residential, commercial, and civic spaces within five buildings. Significant elements include a multiplex cinema, two 250,000sf office buildings, a 395-unit apartment building and a luxury hotel. The development also includes dedicated space for court and municipal functions.

The project’s success was contingent on its connection to the Metro Station and as a destination center for the community. In order to prioritize this, the massing of the buildings is arranged to clearly guide pedestrians between and around the multiple buildings and respond to the adjacent context. Ease of access from each building to the Metro station and surrounding urban context is provided through the central plaza. Landscape elements separate areas of high pedestrian traffic from more private exterior spaces.

Other notable building features include five-levels of below grade parking and a plaza with fountains and a colonnade. The community area includes a social room, an exercise room and the entrance to a rooftop pool.
