Sustainable Design

This project constructed in 1984 utilized green building practices and features well ahead of current architectural practices. The two-story greenhouse offers an environment for horticultural activities and provides an extension to existing living space. The implementation of sustainable design in this project involved an active air-to-air collector system to heat the existing house and an active mechanical system that removes warm air generated by the green house in the winter. The same system also exhausts heat to the exterior during the summer months. Photovoltaic panels were added to power these mechanical systems and reduce the energy load of the house. These systems in combination with our design strategies combine to create an energy efficient and functional addition to an existing home.
